Breaking News: The appointment of new minister Mr John Steenhuisen and deputy minister Ms Rosemary Nokuzola Capa of agriculture in South Africa
Nalfa-SA welcomes the appointment of Mr. John Steenhuisen as the new Minister and Ms Rosemary Nokuzola Capa as the deputy minister of Agriculture in South Africa. We believe they will champion transformation and increase the number of black farmers graduating to commercial farming at an accelerated pace.
While we’re not concerned about political party affiliations, we’re critical of the grassroots impact on the farming community. The former Ministry, led by Director-General Mr. Ramasodi, was capable and effective.
We look forward to working with the new Minister, who we expect to hit the ground running. We’re optimistic that the departmental restructuring will not delay program implementation, especially those benefiting historically disadvantaged communities.
We note the separation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Land Reform and Rural Development, hoping it won’t hinder administrative efficiency and effectiveness in agricultural programs. Previously known as the Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (DAFF) until June 2019, the ministry will now be known simply as the Ministry of Agriculture. NALFA-SA commits to inclusive development as envisage in the AAMP 2030.
