#PresidentialInauguration2024: “The people of South Africa have spoken and we accept. They have directed us to work together” -President Cyril Ramaphosa
The President of South Africa, the honourable Matamela Ramaphosa reaffirmed that the people of this Country have spoken in the 2024 National Election.
He further confirmed that the nation did not trust one particular party to lead. That’s why no party got outright majority.
The thuma mina speech by the President on the 28 May 2019 did not have impactful transformation to the nation especially farmers.
However the 2024 inaugural speech did not have specifics but broad acknowledgment of what should have happened and what would happen in GNU.
Both Ramaphosa 2019 and 2024 inauguration speeches emphasised the theme of “new era” for South Africa.
In 2019, Ramaphosa highlighted the formation of a coalition goverment with the DA and other parties to address deep inequalities and grow the economy.
Similarly, In 2024, Ramaphosa reaffirmed the “New Era” theme and the need for unity and equality focusing on the same items.
Both speeches acknowledge d the disappointments of the electorate and expressed a commitment to work together for betterment of the country.
In both 2019 and 2024, Ramaphosa warned those who seek to undermine institutions and inflame tensions.
The key policy priorities outlined in 2019 speech was social welfare, infrastructure development and providing basic services., while in 2024 focused on economic challenges, reversing inequalities and creating employment opportunities.
Fair assessment indicate that the economy is not yet transformed to empower majority of South Africans. The economy is still in the hands of the few.
The farming community, Many of the black farmers are still far from being commercialised due to lack of land and production stock.
We will await with enthusiasm for the roll out of plans or policy positions as outlined by the President in his speech on the issue of land to farmers, transformation and inclusivity of the economy, safety of farmers.
However, we also note that nothing was said about health, Education, illegal immigrants, shortages or water, electricity which undermines economic ground.
We as farmers are willing to work with government in redesigning land question and food security.
